Ebor Falls Location and Underlying Geology

Not at all surprisingly, the visually stunning Ebor Falls formed in a region of our world itself already well known for its abundance of geological splendor. Somewhat more precisely, the visually captivating flow of water formed near the village of Ebor.

This community further lies in the New England region of New South Wales. That places it on the always amazing continent of Australia. This wonder of geological and biological marvels aslso sits on the Waterfall Way, along with many other sites.

Yet Nature didn’t merely stop there when creating the site. The breathtaking formation additionally represents a highly unique geological marvel. That holds true due to the fact that it formed at a point where ancient lava flows joined.

This, therefore, serves as the source of the presence of basalt, which predominantly underlies the entire area. That presence accounts for yet another local treasure. Its origins even formed numerous vertical basalt columns below the lower tier.

The basalt deposit itself easily qualifies as an equally impressive formation in its own right. That’s due to the sheer volume of the formation. This averages a depth of roughly 164 ft (50 m), in some places it measures an astonishing 94 ft (300 m) in depth.

Ebor Falls further boasts one more surprise for the amazed visitor. It also formed from a specific, and uncommon, type of lava, known as mafic lava. Being rich in magnesium and iron, it makes for a striking background as the water plunges over the waterfall.
