Kaghan Valley Facts

The stunning Kaghan Valley forms a long and picturesque valley. Yet it formed in a rather remote and rugged section of the world.
The great beauty of this geological marvel quite naturally attracts numerous tourists to the region. This continues despite the ruggedness of the surrounding terrain.
Sadly, a strong earthquake damaged portions of the valley in 2005 and severely damaged the only road access to the region. Thankfully, the road has since been repaired.
The valley remains so remote that, prior to 1947, the only access to it was by undertaking an arduous journey via one of two mule trails through the region.

Kaghan Valley Physical Description

In addition to its truly breathtaking natural splendor, the highly picturesque Kaghan Valley measures roughly 96 mi (155 km) in length.

Inclined upwards, through the mountains, it also sits at one the highest elevations of any known valley. From its lowest point, it rises from an elevation of 2,134 ft (650 m) to a maximum elevation of about 13,690 ft (4,170 m).

It also lies nestled between surrounding high mountains, some of which attain heights of as much as 17,000 ft (5,200 m).

Kaghan Valley also serves as home to more than a dozen large, pristine lakes. Several of these remain known for their extremely clear, slightly green tinted water.

Kaghan Valley Location, Climate, and Features

The astounding marvel of Nature that man has named the Kaghan Valley sits in a remote and difficult to access portion of northeastern Pakistan, in Asia.

This surprising location also possesses a climate that feels predominantly alpine in nature. Numerous forests and expansive, verdant meadows occupy much of the region.

Also, numerous lakes, both large and small, dot the region. One of these lakes bears the name of Lake Lulusar, and within it sits a small island.

In the middle of the island, also sits yet another small lake.

Much of the terrain also remains extremely rugged, making an arduous hike necessary to reach them.
